TouchDesigner Roundtable HALLE

16 Jan 2025 , 19:00 23:30 CET

Organised by The NODE Institute, the TouchDesigner Roundtable serves as a dynamic gathering for creatives and developers exploring the visual development platform TouchDesigner. It also welcomes anyone intrigued by the world of interactive media art and the innovative minds shaping it.

In this edition, we broaden our horizons with a visit to Kunsthochschule Burg Giebichenstein in Halle, a city located about two hours southwest of Berlin. For over a century, the Burg has been a cornerstone of design education and remains one of Germany’s most renowned design universities. The program features an insight into how TouchDesigner has been integrated into the Design Fundamentals curriculum focusing on process and interaction by Prof. Florian Kühnle. The Roundtable will be accompanied by a showcase of recent student works. We also look forward to contributions from Victoria Mikhaylova, a Master’s student at Bauhaus University Weimar, and Norman Wassmuth, a Berlin-based computational designer, who will share insights from their practices.

20:00 UHR / 8:00 PM / FLORIAN KÜHNLE

Florian Kühnle teaches as professor for Design Fundamentals/Process and Interaction at the Kunsthochschule Burg Giebichenstein. He studied Sound Engineering at the Konrad Wolf Film University in Potsdam and Art and Media at the Berlin University of the Arts. His work focuses on creating spatial installations for public, event or theatre spaces that combine analog-physical properties and (digital) media such as light, sound, video, and code.
In his teaching, Florian addresses the changing conditions under which design practice takes place today. As designers widely use digital and non-linear tools, design objects can be remodified, revisited, or reversed at any time. In addition, semi-automated and artificially intelligent processes are increasingly taking over design tasks. To question and look into these processes as well as into critical aspects of technology usage, already during design fundametal classes, is a central interest of his.

21:00 UHR / 9:00 PM / Victoria Mikhaylova

Victoria Mikhaylova is a multidisciplinary artist, VJ, and educator based in Weimar. Her passion for real-time visuals began with Hydra, a live-coding tool she uses for teaching and performances. Seeking deeper interaction with immersive environments, she adopted TouchDesigner as her primary platform. For her master’s thesis, Victoria is creating a fulldome real-time audio-visual performance that combines 360-degree imagery, soundscapes, and interactive storytelling. The project explores trauma and emotional release, offering audiences a space for reflection and connection.
