SS24 – TD 10 – How to Control and Map Lasers with TouchDesigner
July 10th 2024, 6 – 9 PM (UTC+2)
In English Language / Online via Zoom
Recordings are available and accessible for one year after purchase.
Just like “traditional” lights, lasers allow us to create and transform spaces beyond the screen. However, lasers are highly focused beams of light that can be precisely controlled and capable of traversing long distances with almost no divergence making them ideal for outdoor projection mapping events. Lasers can be manipulated to create dynamic effects such as moving patterns, pulsating lights, or even three-dimensional illusions. This adds an extra dimension of creativity to projection mapping displays. You’ll often see them mainly as rays and planes of light visible in humid or foggy air, thus enabling virtual architectures and futuristic scenographies.
Your instructor Moritz Hilscher works with LaserAnimation Sollinger GmbH, one of the leading developers and manufacturers of laser systems for art, shows, and entertainment. Based in Berlin, LaserAnimation Sollinger systems stand for quality, highest precision, and reliability. Having been used in many iconic productions, they are widely regarded as the best lasers for artistic applications.
Moritz will introduce participants to lasers as a creative medium, explain the dangers and conditions that need to be met to operate them, and, most importantly, show how one can control lasers from within TouchDesigner – opening up many use cases like projection mapping, audio visualization, and tracking. Participants will get access to the LA.preview laser simulation software and example networks that will help them get started in no time.
After the live lesson you will get access to the recording and the workshop files for one year.
Requirements
This module is made for participants, who have a basic understanding of TouchDesigner, but do not need any experience with shader languages. If you just getting started, please visit our Beginners Course first.
- A recent PC or MAC Computer (discrete GPU recommended) with stable internet connection
- The latest build of TouchDesigner installed
- 3-Button Mouse recommended
