Step out of the screen into the physical world.

2 Sessions at 3 hours, live in English language
Recordings will become available the day after the live lesson.

Step out of the standard 16:9 screen and into the physical world with this comprehensive professional vvvv workshop. “Pixels in Space” is designed for visual artists, creative technologists, and event professionals who want to master the art of large-scale, immersive interactive first visual experiences.

Over the course of this workshop, we will dive deep into vvvv’s powerful toolkit for handling complex spatial output scenarios. You will learn how to seamlessly map digital content onto physical objects, manage massive resolutions across multiple displays, and synchronize content perfectly across multiple networked machines.

You will be learning from Simon Weckert, one of the vvvv developers at Refik Anadol’s museum Dataland, which runs on 84 synchronized projectors rendering vvvv pixels frame-accurate across the entire space. Learn more about vvvv at Dataland

Whether you are building an interactive art installation, a dynamic stage design for a live performance, or a permanent immersive exhibition room, this course provides the technical foundation and practical workflows you need. We will demystify the complexities of client sync, edge blending, and rendering optimization, allowing you to focus entirely on unleashing your creative vision

Requirements

  • Windows computer with latest vvvv gamma installed
  • 3 button mouse recommended
  • Second monitor required (this course practises multi-display / projection setups — have any HDMI/DisplayPort cables and adapters ready)
  • A dedicated Nvidia graphics card

What you will learn:

  • Multiscreen Management — Configure massive resolutions and route outputs perfectly across multiple displays and hardware.
  • Projection Mapping — Master techniques to warp, blend, and map your digital visuals onto complex physical structures.
  • Network Synchronization — Link multiple vvvv clients together for frame-accurate, distributed, and scalable rendering power.
  • Immersive Room Setup — Combine projection and multi-display techniques to design fully surrounding, 360-degree environments.
  • Performance Optimization — Learn crucial workflows and patching techniques to keep large-scale setups running at smooth framerates.

Course Outline:

Session 1 – 08.12.2026 – The Art & Craft of Mapping
Discover spatial augmented reality and learn to transform physical objects into dynamic displays. After analyzing inspiring real-world projects, we will dive into vvvv’s mapping toolkits to master edge blending, perspective correction, and calibration workflows.

Session 2 – 15.12.2026 – Networked Immersion & Scale
Scale your setups to infinity. Master client synchronization across multiple computers to seamlessly drive massive immersive rooms. You will learn robust networking strategies and multi-display management for flawless, frame-accurate playback.
