TouchDesigner Roundtable XXXVIII

29 Oct 2026 , 18:00 – 23:30 CET

On October 29, 2026, The NODE Institute hosts the 38th edition of TouchDesigner Roundtable Berlin — its recurring gathering for the visual programming and creative coding community — at NLND, a 150,000 m² innovation district built inside the former Philip Morris factory in Neukölln.

The roundtable features talks from Lukas Treibenreif (OBJ.Studio), Sophie Holder, and Greg Hermanovic, one of the founders of Derivative — the company behind TouchDesigner itself. Graeme du Plessis, Brand Director of NLND, kicks off the evening with an introduction to the site.

The Roundtable takes over the Kino, a 140 m² screening space inside the campus — a shift in scale and setting from previous editions, bringing TouchDesigner into a building built for a very different kind of production line.

Please note: guests will need to check in at NLND’s reception before heading to the Kino.

If you can not attend the in-person event in Berlin, do not worry — we will stream the talks on our YouTube channel.

NLND — short for Neuland Berlin — is a 150,000 m² innovation district built inside the former Philip Morris factory in Neukölln. Across thirty buildings, it houses an Innovation Hub with flex desks and startup offices to rent, several event spaces including a 5,000-person conference center, as well as production and prototyping spaces of all sizes.

As a deeptech ecosystem and ‘network of networks’, NLND brings together industry and SMEs with universities, startups and government to create a European lighthouse project for AI, Industry 4.0 and future city technologies. It is a place built for pilots and prototypes as much as for established production.

An important part of the NLND concept is a holistic approach to community and innovation, featuring programming, creativity, sports and other social activities.

As Brand Director for NLND Berlin, Graeme du Plessis has built the NLND brand from the ground up, and works with a team of collaborators to bring the NLND magic to all touchpoints. Under his direction, a former cigarette factory has become as much a stage as a workspace.

To kick off the event, he’ll give an inside look at the opportunities and challenges of embracing the site’s potential, celebrating the project’s gritty industrial legacy, and creating work that is relevant for an innovation campus.

LUKAS TREIBENREIF (OBJ.STUDIO)

Lukas Treibenreif is an experience designer, multimedia artist, and partner at OBJ.Studio, an interdisciplinary studio based in Berlin and Hamburg, creating genuine emotions through immersive spatial experiences and multimedia installations. The studio’s practice ranges from permanent to non-permanent projects, from exhibitions to brand experiences and large-scale shows, in cultural and commercial contexts.

OBJ.Studio also crafted two site-specific light installations for NLND’s Ecosystem Launch, their big opening event, so this Roundtable is something of a homecoming.

In this session, he’ll give insight into some of their finished installations and projects, looking at the concepts, the compromises and what happens between the first idea and the physical experience.

21:00 UHR / 9:00 PM / SOPHIE HOLDER

Sophie Holder’s visuals are at home wherever the sound turns hypnotic, from the psychedelic to the underground. The Berlin-based visual artist works with generative systems and sculptural 3D forms, building sound-reactive, biomechanical visual systems mixed in real time.

Four years ago, a first festival experience in Europe at Mo:Dem showed her how big visuals can get, and she decided to pursue that path. She joined Catalyst’s Visual Effects and Digital Arts programme in Berlin, which opened up the world of 3D, and began performing at parties with a close friend. On stage, her environments shift between chaos and composition, as seen at Fusion Festival and Masters of Puppets.

In this session, she shares her process, from sculpting in ZBrush and rendering in Cinema 4D to a live setup of TouchDesigner running through Resolume.

GREG HERMANOVIC (DERIVATIVE)

Long before TouchDesigner existed, Greg Hermanovic drew his first pixel on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean — a 1974 start to a career in real-time graphics. Today he’s president and CTO of Derivative, the company behind TouchDesigner, and one of its founders.

He co-founded Side Effects Software, the makers of Houdini, in 1987 — work that earned him two Academy Awards for procedural visual effects — before spinning off Derivative in 2000 to build real-time tools for interactive art, media and visualization.

In this session, he’ll talk about why TouchDesigner is built the way it is — the design decisions behind the tool, from someone who’s been making those calls for over two decades.
