Light Sculptures with DMX POPs
Holistic and Interactive Light Sculptures as Stages

February 13 2026, 3 – 6 PM, IST Time
1 module at 3 hours in English language – in person
This course is not suited for Beginners!
This intensive 3-hour workshop, led by production designer and new media artist Stephen Bontly, introduces participants to the creation of holistic, interactive light sculptures using TouchDesigner and DMX POPs. Designed for artists, designers, and creators with experience in real-time systems, the workshop explores strategies for building immersive environments where light, sound, and video respond dynamically to audience presence and movement.

Participants will learn practical workflows for designing and controlling complex lighting setups with TouchDesigner and grandMA, including configuring DMX POPs for versatile interaction and spatial effects. Stephen will demonstrate techniques for combining LED lights, lasers, mirrors, fog, and projection mapping to craft multi-sensory installations that react in real time.

Through hands-on exercises, live demonstrations, and shared project files, participants will explore how to design light sculptures that not only function technically but also convey narrative, emotion, and spatial awareness. Stephen will draw from his work on The Banyan Tree—a festival-commissioned, evolving light-and-sound installation that uses TouchDesigner, grandMA, and Unreal Engine—to illustrate how interactive environments can transform spaces and highlight the power of collective presence.

By the end of the session, participants will have gained actionable skills to create engaging, responsive light installations, as well as insights into the conceptual and technical considerations behind immersive, multi-sensory environments. Whether for gallery installations, stage design, or experimental performance, this workshop equips participants with the tools and inspiration to craft experiences that engage, move, and connect audiences.
