Data Visualization with POPs
Visualizing Biological Data in TouchDesigner

February 12 2026, 2 – 6 PM, IST Time
1 module at 3 hours in English language – in person
This course is not suited for Beginners!
This intensive 3-hour workshop, led by generative artist and molecular biology researcher Artem Grigorov (aka Newnome Beauton), introduces professional users to advanced techniques for visualizing complex biological data in TouchDesigner. Designed for artists, designers, and scientists with experience in TouchDesigner, the workshop explores strategies for transforming molecular structures, anatomical scans, and 3D point clouds into compelling real-time visuals.

Participants will learn best practices for processing and optimizing biological data using external tools such as VMD for molecular visualization, 3D Slicer for medical imaging, and CloudCompare for point cloud processing. Artem will demonstrate workflows for converting, cleaning, and preparing data to ensure smooth real-time performance in TouchDesigner.

The workshop emphasizes hands-on learning, with live demonstrations and shared project files that allow participants to follow along and experiment with their own visualizations. Artem will also showcase real-world examples to illustrate how scientific and artistic goals can be balanced, providing practical strategies to extend TouchDesigner’s core functionality for data-driven projects.

By the end of the session, participants will have a clear understanding of how to import, process, and creatively visualize complex biological datasets, as well as actionable techniques to optimize their workflows for high-performance real-time graphics. Whether for scientific communication, educational purposes, or artistic experimentation, this workshop equips participants with the tools and inspiration to bring data to life visually.

About the Instructor
Newnome Beauton is a generative artist and researcher with a PhD in molecular biology. His work explores the aesthetics of mathematical and biological systems through real-time computer graphics, algorithmic experimentation, and creative coding. Artem’s practice focuses on balancing algorithmic complexity and aesthetic refinement, inspired by complex natural processes and patterns. He actively researches and develops new visualization algorithms, making these accessible through tutorials, community workshops, and his Patreon. His work has been featured in various exhibitions and festivals, including Kinomural, HumanLab 4.0, and the grand opening of the Beeple Studios gallery.
