SUMMARY:zusammen wachsen : audiovisuelle Perspektiven 22
\nAbendgestaltung Domplatz\n \nSamstag\, 1. Oktober 2022\n19:00 Uhr – Jenaer Philharmonie + Kopffarben\n20:45 Uhr – Martin Kohlstedt + Lea Brugnoli\nSonntag\, 2. \nhttps://www.noaccidentinparadise.com \n \ngrowing together : audiovisual perspectives 22\nA musical-visual program for the cathedral square in Erfurt\nCommissioned by the Thuringian State Chancellery\, media artist and co-founder of the NODE Institute Berlin\, Stefan Kraus\, has curated an audiovisual program for the stage on the Domplatz in Erfurt as part of the citizens’ festival for the Day of German Unity 2022. \nLive music meets live video animation\, which will illuminate the northeastern facade of the Erfurt Cathedral as a projection mapping.\nThe leitmotif of the Day of German Unity – growing together – becomes the common thread through which the different performances are interwoven. \nThe 3D projection mapping uses anamorphosis\, a technique that has a rich tradition in art history. In this process\, a motif is seemingly distorted and fragmented. However\, if the viewer is positioned in the right place (the so-called “sweet spot”)\, the parts of the image combine with each other and merge to form a perspectively-correct representation. This is an “interactive” effect that has inspired awe time and again since the Renaissance. \nTo be able to map the complex fassade in every detail\, digitus.art was commissioned to create a 26.000 m² big 3D model from over 1500 drone photographs. \nOnce viewers have found the right viewing point\, they will enjoy live animations by video artists Kopffarben\, Lea Brugnoli and Markus Heckmann in a new\, virtual space that adds an unexpected dimension to the perception of Erfurt Cathedral. \n \nImprovisation not only plays an important role for the visual artists\, some of whom use live painting and specially programmed software to create moving images that only come into being at the moment they are viewed\, but is also part of the core of most musicians’ performance practices.\nThe Jena Philharmonic Orchestra will open the program on Saturday evening with an ensemble of over 60 musicians\, while composer and pianist Martin Kohlstedt will take the audience on a journey into his personal musical world.\nOn Sunday\, the Klezmer Orchestra Erfurt will bring Yiddish festive music to the stage with more than 70 performers\, followed by NoAccidentInParadise\, an electronic trio that uses guest instrumentalists and site-specific samples to customize each concert. \nTogether\, these artists will present a site-specific and cross-genre art experience that intertwines sound\, image\, and space\, playfully transcending the divisive. \nEvening Show Cathedral Square\n \nSaturday\, October 1\, 2022\n7:00 PM – Jenaer Philharmonie + Kopffarben\n8:45 PM – Martin Kohlstedt + Lea Brugnoli \nSunday\, October 2\, 2022\n7:00 PM – Klezmerorchester Erfurt + Kopffarben\n9:00 PM – NoAccidentInParadise + Markus Heckmann \nJena Philharmonic Orchestra\n \nThe Jena Philharmonic Orchestra has played an indispensable role in the cultural life of the Free State of Thuringia for decades. In addition to its regional quality as the largest concert orchestra in Thuringia\, it is increasingly developing the effect of a national and international flagship and is a sought-after home for soloists and guest conductors. \nThe opening of the orchestra’s work into the city of Jena and the profiling of offers for the most diverse target groups has produced a series of new formats in recent years\, which stand for diversity\, the joy of experimentation and the desire for unusual collaborations and show a young\, extremely committed orchestra in constant motion. \nWith concerts in a wide variety of venues\, the Jena Philharmonic is in constant dialogue with the people of its city\, while guest performances take the orchestra to concert halls all over the world. \nhttps://www.jenaer-philharmonie.de \nKopffarben\n \nThe painter Julia Schäfer and the media artist Johannes Schmidt are united by the vision of bringing paintings to life. The fusion of visual art and artistic algorithms creates interactive and moving light images between video mapping and painting. \nJulia Schäfer’s choice of motifs and colors emerges in dialogue with the music. The focus of the content is the role of emotions and empathy in society. Johannes Schmidt coordinates the movement of the created motifs with the rhythm and timbre of the music. \nThe performative light painting intensifies the sonic experience of a concert through a visual and spatial experience and thereby makes the artistic process tangible for the audience. \n“With light it is possible to paint quite fantastically\, even in the darkness\, but at the same time so ephemerally. A visual concert of KOPFFARBEN consists not only of notes\, but above all of painting. It does not happen on a canvas\, but on a screen. Painting meets computer science here. What emerges from this does not hang on a wall in a museum\, but happens live on a stage. Filigree lines meet exploding color textures\, figurative elements begin to move\, and the dimensions become blurred as linear patterns transform into three dimensions and float away into the depths like galaxies. During the performances\, everything is born out of the moment. You can watch the image come into being\, but you can also watch its metamorphoses\, all the way to its disappearance.” \nDr. Uwe Förster | Kunstmuseum Kloster Magdeburg | 2017 \nhttps://www.kopffarben.de \nMartin Kohlstedt\n \nThe composer and pianist Martin Kohlstedt\, who comes from the Eichsfeld region\, confronts the audience every time anew with musical border crossings. With virtuosic and unpredictable energy\, he has built up a loyal fan base worldwide. \nHis pieces celebrate the fusion of analog and digital instrumentation. Modular song structures allow him spontaneous freedom in his concerts\, which he lives out intensively to the enthusiasm of the audience. Kohlstedt’s playing is not a staging of a work\, but the musical conversation with his instruments themselves. \nIn the last ten years he has released seven albums\, composed numerous film scores\, and with his collaboration with the Leipzig with the Gewandhaus Chor Leipzig and a sold-out concert at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg. \nhttps://www.martinkohlstedt.de \n\nLea Brugnoli \nMedia artist Lea Brugnoli\, who lives in Berlin and Milan\, completed her master’s degree in media architecture at the Bauhaus University in Weimar after working in Milan and Tongji. Since then she has been designing immersive installations\, exhibitions and interactive stage sets in Germany and Italy. Video mapping is an important tool for the young artist which she uses to transform music into moving space\, a passion she manifests through numerous collaborations\, and celebrates at festivals across Europe. \nhttps://leabrugnoli.com \nKlezmerorchester Erfurt\n \nFounded by Johannes Paul Gräßer and Szilvia Csaranko\, this amateur orchestra with professional support brings together over 70 musicians from all over Europe and connects people of different generations and origins. \nIn its new program\, probably the largest klezmer orchestra is dedicated to the newly discovered material of the Kiselgof-Makonovetsky collection. Discovered three years ago in Ukraine\, countless previously unknown melodies can now be made accessible to the public in a world premiere. \nThe program is complemented by melodies by Dave Tarras (1895 – 1989) one of the most famous klezmer musicians. Born in Ukraine\, he was part of a family of musicians who lived the tradition of Yiddish festive music for generations. On his flight to the USA almost exactly 100 years ago\, he visited the Jewish community of Erfurt in 1921 and played music here. \nhttps://www.klezwecan.de \nMarkus Heckmann\n \nMedia artist Markus Heckmann studied media technology at the Technical University of Ilmenau and the Bauhaus University of Weimar before starting work as Technical Director at Derivative in Toronto\,Canada\, in 2006. In his artistic work he combines the aesthetics of generative computer graphics with the physical properties of light. \nFor his media performances Markus uses the innovative programming environment TouchDesigner to constantly develop new visual instruments that allow him to play live and improvised together with the music. \nThe visual worlds created in this way are far from any representation\, but rather make the medium itself dream. Colors\, shapes and movements draw imaginary spaces that he explores and documents with virtuosity. The artwork is created in the same moment in which it is viewed. \nhttps://project1.net \nNoAccidentInParadise\n \nNamed after a park in Jena\, Germany\, the trio balances live arrangement and improvisation to construct acoustic spaces that feel like you have to touch them\,laces dedicated to the culture of relaxation without falling into lovely kitsch. Analog and electronic sounds meet fragments and snippets that have a direct relation to the performance space\, rolling out a carpet of sound without a command to dance. \nhttps://www.noaccidentinparadise.com

SUMMARY:Release Presentation: FUSE
DESCRIPTION:After the roadmap presentation in December 2020 you are now invited to join the core development team of FUSE to celebrate the first preview release of the library. We will take an introductory tour of what has been produced and discuss future directions for The FUSE Lab.\nFUSE is a library for visually programming on the GPU\, built to enable rapid workflows and modular approaches to accelerated graphics\, logic and computation.  \nFUSE is built for use in vvvv gamma and follows it’s ‘always runtime’ model allowing for fast design and programming work with no build or compile process in between you and your results. \nThe open source library is a highly recognized project in the creative coding scene as it enables visual programmers to patch directly on the GPU in runtime. It contains domain specific high level node collections like Distance Fields & Raymarching\, Particles\, Procedural Geometry. The project in its pre release status has already attracted a lot of attention from the worldwide generative design community. \nAs a community supported project (backer list can be found here)\, the team already make it to use in real world projects and now aim to share the fruits of its research & development with the peers in the creative coding and generative design communities. \nWith The FUSE Lab team Natan Sinigaglia\, Kyle McLean\, Christian RiekoffDavid Brüll (Host) \nLive Stream of the event: \n \nThe Roadmap Presentation from December 2020\n https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waUDdngzSNY \nFUSE Websitehttps://www.thefuselab.io/ \n  \nFUSE Codehttps://github.com/TheFuseLab/VL.Fuse \n  \nFUSE Discussion:https://discourse.vvvv.org/t/fuse-project/19000 https://app.element.io/#/room/#VL.Fuse:matrix.org \n  \n

SUMMARY:Shiny generative graphics with vvvv
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is for generative artists who start to explore the power of vvvv gamma’s 3D Engine (VL.Stride).\n\nThe online Workshop will guide you through the process of creating the title image used for the release of vvvv gamma 2021.3 as seen here: https://vvvv.org/blog/vvvv-gamma-2021.3-release. \nIn the course of 3 hours we’ll create this generative image step-by-step without cutting any corners. Every single topic and technique involved will be covered\, only as much as needed. To be honest\, we’ll just scratch the surface of what’s possible\, but this will give you a good head start into the amazing construction kit that vvvv is. \nYou will learn how to:\n1. Create a generative 3d structure \n2. Render the scene efficiently by using instancing \n3. Define and assign materials to the instanced objects \n4. Deal with performance issues while rendering the 4k image \n5. Split up the patch into separate parts to avoid a mess and enhance performance\, even when you are “just” prototyping. \nRequirements:\nYou should be familiar with the basics of patching in vvvv gamma. \nThese videos will help you with that:  \n1. First Steps: https://youtu.be/eFVFKxhsrS8 \n2. Building a Simple 3d Scene: https://youtu.be/Cs60A_pSIy0 \nRecording:\n This workshop will be recorded.\nIn case you cannot make it on the date of the event\, you will have the possibility to purchase a separate access to the recording afterwards.\n \nBy buying a ticket for this live workshop you agree that your image\, voice and screenshare are part of the recording and thus will be available for everyone afterwards. \nInstructor

SUMMARY:Machine learning for interaction designers
DESCRIPTION:This workshop is for interaction designers who work with vvvv. The online workshop by french creative coder Seb Escudié will introduce you to tools enabling you to leverage machine learning capabilities in your own vvvv patches.\n\nAs the name of the webinar suggests\, we’ll talk about machine learning through the prism of interactive installations. We won’t go into much details inside the math behind it. This is actually the whole point of this webinar: there are some tools out there that can help us leverage the capabilities of machine learning without having to know too much about what’s under the hood. \nThrough a series of practical examples (and a tiny bit of theory!)\, we’ll try to understand what machine learning is\, and how using it can help us in our everyday patching life\, and allow us to do things that would be very tedious to do without it. \nYou will learn how to:\n\nWhat are machine learning and deep learning \nUse RunwayML trained model in your vvvv patches \nTalk to the Wekinator \nTrain your own models with Microsoft Lobe \n\nRequirements:\n\nWindows PC with latest stable vvvv gamma \n3 buttons mouse \nYou should be familiar with the basics of patching in vvvv gamma \nA free RunwayML account \nThe Wekinator software installed on your computer \nLatest version of Microsoft LOBE installed on your computer \n \n  \n\nInstructor

The concept is roughly based on and best explained by the well known “whispering” game\, in which one participant whispers a word in their neighbour’s ear\, who then whispers what they think they understood into the next person’s ear until the word arrives back to the original source. Transcontinental Whispers follows a similar approach; it will\, however\, use an audio-visual signal instead of a word and not stop after just one round. SUMMARY:AV Performance : Transcontinental Whispers
DESCRIPTION:Transcontinental Whispers is an MXZEHN artistic research performancepresented by aejaa & The NODE Institute \n \n The Performance \nDecember 6th\, 9PM Berlin (UTC+1)\nTranscontinental Whispers is an ongoing project which considers the nature of live performance in the digital realm. The concept is roughly based on and best explained by the well known “whispering” game\, in which one participant whispers a word in their neighbour’s ear\, who then whispers what they think they understood into the next person’s ear until the word arrives back to the original source. \nThrough multiple “human factor” filters\, the word becomes distorted and the message takes on new meaning. Transcontinental Whispers follows a similar approach; it will\, however\, use an audiovisual signal instead of a word and not stop after just one round. \nThere are six players in the game\, spread out over different continents. Each of them only  receives the signal (1920x1080p30) of their predecessor in the chain. The last output is fed back into the first input and the feedback circle is closed. \nThis creates a gigantic looping machine\, as the signal requires approximately 20 seconds to travel from one artist to the next\, and every action needs about two minute before it arrives back to where it started. \nNone of the performers will have a complete overview and the performance will be strictly improvised. Nobody knows what is going to happen on December 6th! The audience will be able to follow the performance at aejaa – a new online performance space for real time remote collaboration – where Christos Atzinos and Andreas Levisianos mix the final stream. \nAudiovisual Performers:Markus Heckmann (Toronto)\, Richard Burns (Tokyo)\, Roy Gerritsen (Amsterdam)Vincent Naples (Los Angeles)\, Stefan Kraus (Berlin)\, Shandor Chury (Paris) \nTechnical Support: Carlos Serrano\, Wieland Hilker / The NODE Institute \nAudio Mix: Andreas Levisianos / aejaaVideo Mix: Christos Atzinos / aejaa \nhttps://aejaa.com/video-room
