When it comes to timelines and tools to create data narratives vvvv never offered many options. Now, there is Kairos, the brand new tool for vvvv when you need to arrange your data over time.
Kairos is not only a tool to finally address the need for data narratives. It also introduces a vast range of possibilities for managing live data and controlling your applications.
This intermediate vvvv workshop starts from the comprehension of the very essence of kairos principles, we’ll then familiarize with the library node set and you will be patching some use case scenarios. Soon it will be obvious that Kairos is not only a solution for common known problems, but truly a new land to be explored, where to shape new methodologies and creative paths.
The four hour workshop was recorded live on March 30th 2021. You are learning directly from visual artists, coder, musician and mastermind Natan Sinigaglia (aka dottore), who is the developer behind VL.Kairos and other vvvv libraries such as the UI library VL.Elementa. Natan walks you through two different nodes and principles of the new tool, explaining all the aspects and provide you with files to kickstart your own exploration. At the end you will understand how to build complex data systems combining realtime data and timebased linear data. You will learn different interpolation models when dealing with different datatypes and arrays.
By buying the workshop recording you directly help the development of Kairos.
You will learn how to:
# Use Kairos timeline and compositor (Kairos canvases)
# Modularize Kairos patches
# Control your application using kairos nodes
you will be introduced to the theory about
# Custom datatype registration within kairos world
# Custom interpolation and blending techniques registration
# Custom canvas development
Prerequisites & preperation:
# You should be familiar with the basics of patching in vvvv gamma, the visual live-programming environment for .NET
# Use a Windows PC (vvvv only runs on windows)
# Use a 3 button mouse.
# Connect a second screen. Put the video left and patch your vvvv patches on the right. Or vice versa.
# Download and install vvvv gamma from: http://visualprogramming.net
# Install Kairos from here: https://www.nuget.org/packages/VL.Kairos/
# You find the source code of Kairos here: https://github.com/vvvv-dottore/VL.Kairos

Natan Sinigaglia is a sound and visual artist from Italy, currently based in Berlin, Germany. With a strong background in music, contemporary dance and realtime graphics, he creates canvases where languages loose their boundaries and share forms and meanings.
During his artistic research he collaborated with many musicians (Maxim Vengerov, Vanessa Wagner, Gloria Campaner, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Odile Auboin, Mira Calix, Novi_sad, Jamie xx, Four Tet …), composers (Nick Ryan, Dmitri Kourliandski), orchestras (Ensemble Intercontemporain, London Contemporary Orchestra, International Menuhin Music Academy Orchestra), dancers (Alexander Whitley), visual artists (Marshmallow Laser Feast, Quayola, Pedro Mari, Claudio Sinatti) worldwide.
