Nature and Technology : Inspiration vs Destruction
Nature has long inspired artists, and in generative and immersive media, VR landscapes, simulations, and digital ecosystems are increasingly central. Many creators translate natural patterns and forms into interactive experiences, citing nature as their most powerful source of inspiration. Yet this interest comes amid ecological crisis, accelerated by technology. This panel explores whether media art can move beyond digital replicas of disappearing ecosystems. Can practices like perma-computing and sustainable design foster environmental awareness and conservation? Or do digital simulations risk being greenwashing? We will examine strategies for creating work that engages, inspires, and protects nature while maintaining artistic integrity and meaningful impact.
