Lesson Overview

Discovering how easy it is to Collapse Selected nodes in a Base COMP and create multiple visuals starting from the previous files (or networks) will be one of the learning outcomes during this lesson. Saving the Base component as a .Tox file will enable you to easily drag it in your new network for today’s lesson.
Starting from the previous lesson and exploring how to edit a visual by changing some parameters.

To create a layout composition of the different visuals could be done using Layout TOP or Tile TOP.
When working with Touchdesigner it could happen many times to reach the same result in multiple ways.

Using CHOPs and building Custom Parameters on the Container COMP level will enable you to control multiple motion effects from the same parameter page.

Creating a new visual for mainly introducing other popular TOPs such as Noise and Displace TOP, and also using others like Edge, Blur, Lookup to refine some visual aspects.

Learning Outcomes

  • Using the Collapse Selected method to create a Base COMP, keeping your network clean and learning how to use external components as .Tox files
  • Exploring the concept of multiple ways for arriving to the same results with TOPs like Layout and Tile
  • Custom Parameters are used to better organise your effects and enhance collaboration with others
  • The differences between Binding Parameters and using CHOP Reference or Export CHOP
  • Creating a new visual to explore other popular TOPs and learning how to Bypass a node
  • Connecting customized parameters with Parameter CHOP and the binding method
